Courtesy of Tasracing.com.au - 12/11/15 - LOTZA KITTY scored a deserving win at the UBET Racing Centre in Launceston last night when she uncharacteristically led but showed courage to defy all challenges in the Newstead Hotel 3YO Maiden Plate over 1120 metres.
The Scott Brunton-trained filly was partnered by reigning premier jockey David Pires who was under instructions to try and drop the filly out early and then let her run home as she had done at her previous outings.
But Pires had to revert to plan B after travelling 300 metres when she was caught wide and started to pull hard so he sent her around the field to take control and it proved to be a winning move.
Lotza Kitty was challenged strongly in the home straight but she kept finding under strong riding and emerged victorious over Gee Gee Sun Valley and Jazzy's Choice.
David Brunton, who was representing his son Scott at the meeting, admitted he was a bit worried when Lotza Kitty was taken on the front.
"David (Pires) obviously had to make a snap decision when things didn't work out as planned but in the end we got the desired result," David Brunton said.
Lotza Kitty is by relatively unknown sire Money or the Gun from Gallariaborghese and while not classically bred her record of a win and two minor placings from only four starts suggests she could have a bright future.
