Rose books berth in St Leger

Courtesy of Tasracing.com.au 12/05/2015 - TALENTED mare Rose of Innocence booked a berth in the upcoming St Leger following her impressive win in an open handicap over 2100m at UBET Park Hobart on Sunday.

It was Rose of Innocence's first try at the distance and it was on a non-preferred heavy track but she delivered where it counted to grab victory in the shadows of the post over stablemate Payteevee.

The Scott Brunton-trained mare only arrived at his Seven Mile Beach training complex in December last year and was out of form and in need of a makeover.

With her trainer in Queensland campaigning the stable's top stayer Banca Mo, Scott's father David Brunton was taking care of business on Sunday and he said the mare was a great acquisition to the stable.

"This mare has gone from strength to strength and this win today was a ripper," Brunton said.

"It's been a while since we've had a horse win six in a row and from memory we've only had one, Aprilia, that won seven in a row so this mare will be trying to equal that when she goes around in the St Leger in a fortnight," he said.

Payteevee did all the bullocking work on Sunday showing his rivals a clean pair of plates for all but the last 20 metres.

"Payteevee will also go to the St Leger and he should be competitive again," Brunton said.

Rose of Innocence has won on all types of ground with Sunday's win her first on a heavy track.

"I'm not convinced she was all that comfortable on the heavy track but she won, so can obviously handle it."
