09/06/14 - PREMIER father and son training combination David and Scott Brunton combined with their stable apprentice Kodie Grace to land a double at Tattersall's Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Grace guided left Ear and Lander Dollar to impressive victories in their respective races to give the young rider his first double.
Left Ear delivered a knockout blow to his rivals to score convincingly in a class one handicap over 1400 metres to confirm his status as an above average galloper.
It is very difficult for a horse to win a maiden and step at its next start and emerge triumphant in a class one and it is usually only the good ones that can accomplish that feat.
Left ear spent over 2-1/2 years in a paddock before being rescued by his owner Christine Green and co-trainer Scott Brunton who after seeing him galloping around in a paddock suggested he should be put back into work and the results have been astounding.
Lander Dollar had already established himself as a progressive type winning two in succession but this latest win to register the hat trick confirmed David Brinton's view that he has the potential to go through to open company.
Grace, who hails from Victoria, had a rocky start to his stint with the Bruntons but he has responded to advice and guidance from his mentors and he is starting to reap the rewards on the racetrack.
Dave Brunton said Lander Dollar will be tested over longer distances next preparation and he is confident he will measure up.
