WHEN premier trainers David and Scott Brunton took grey gelding Am I There Yet to the races for the first time in Tasmania they were confident he could figure prominently in a maiden in Launceston last year.
They placed a sizeable each-way investment on the gelded son of Barton Gate but he missed the start badly and ran on strongly to finish an unlucky fourth.
He won at his next start in Hobart three weeks later but the 40-1 was nowhere to be found and instead bookies offered 6-1 before starting at 9-2.
Nevertheless Am I There Yet has continued to perform well and surprised his trainers with the way he delivers at the business end of his races.
At Devonport on Wednesday he stepped up to 2360 metres but made light work of the task by powering home to score comfortably from All I Got in a BM 62 Handicap.
It was the first leg of a winning double for team Brunton as they also prepared Len's Luck to score a convincing win in a maiden/class one over 1880 metres.
Len's Luck was also ridden by Buck who had the gelding handily placed throughout and when he got him to the outside turning for home he stormed home to win comfortably from Moonless and Delago Delight.
