LIGHTLY raced three-year-old filly eagle Flight opened her account for new trainers David and Scott Brunton with an impressive win in a 3YO and upwards maiden over 1200 metres in Hobart today.

Eagle Flight was allowed to settle at the rear of the field by jockey Stephen Maskiell before being sent forward three-wide with cover at the 550-metre mark.

She came wide turning for home and when Maskiell asked her for the big effort she quickly collared the leader and went on to win convincingly from race leader Porus with Game Of Thrones a closing third.

Eagle Flight only recently joined the Brunton stable, having spent a few months in the care of Longford mentor Vicki Rhind for who the filly had three starts for two minor placings and a last-start sixth.

It also was a great way for former top jockey-come trainer Michael Guthrie to celebrate his arrival at the Brunton stable as assistant trainer.

Today was Guthrie's first official day as assistant trainer at a race meeting.

He had a great relationship with the stable when he was riding, in particular with champion mare Lady Lynette that went on to win over $1 million in prizemoney.
