A DECISION on whether to progress to the Tasmanian Guineas with promising three-year-old has been placed on hold despite the gelding scoring an impressive win in a 3YO and Upward maiden over 1200 metres at Tattersall's Park in Hobart today.
Niloufar (Brendon McCoull) was having his third start this time in and followed two minor placings at his previous two outings.
The David and Scott Brunton-trained gelding showed promise last season when third to Geegees Hot Hussie in a 2YO handicap (1100m) on debut in early June.
He was spell immediately but connections believe he is still very immature and that could prevent them from progressing to feature races against the best in his age in the state.
McCoull told connections after the race that the gelding did some things wrong in the race including jumping shadows in the back straight.
"He is still very green but he's definitely got talent," McCoull said in the unsaddling enclosure.
