LIGHTLY raced three-year-old Up Cups delivered on a promise he made with a bold first-up effort on Melbourne Cup day with a convincing win in a 3YO and Upward Maiden over 1000 metres at Tattersall's Park in Hobart today
With premier rider Brendon McCoull aboard, Up Cups came from midfield to score a commanding win over race leader Little Streaked with the winner's stablemate Kenbiki a closing third.
Up Cups, prepared by David and Scott Brunton, was run down at his first try this time in by stablemate Vigilante after leading for most of the race.
Up Cups was ridden more patiently by McCoull and the gelded son of Helike looked to have a bit in reserve when he hit the line.
The gelding was bred by one of his part-owners Rick Polly who has enjoyed a lot of success with the Brunton stable.
It was the first leg of a race-to-race double for the stable with Acacia Bloom, that was well backed late in betting, scoring a runaway win in a 3YO and Upward Maiden Plate over 1400m.
Acacia Bloom had been threatening to win a race but had failed a few times when expected to shine.

She was partnered by apprentice Ismail Toker who has been riding well this season.
