Courtesy of The Examiner 20/09/12 - Greg Mansfield - LEADING trainers David and Scott Brunton will unveil another new apprentice when former Victorian David Fisher has his first ride at Elwick on Sunday.
Fisher, 20, will partner first-starter Buzzing Away - a full sister to smart mare Buzzing Along - in the 3YO Maiden Plate.
Rhonda Mangan, another ex-Victorian who has been a successful rider on the picnic circuit, also recently joined the Brunton stable but she will miss the next two meetings after being suspended at Spreyton last weekend.
Fisher did a traineeship with Mick Cerchi and has spent time with Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon.
He said it had been ''a long road'' to his first race but he wanted to get a good grounding riding trackwork before starting his apprenticeship.
''I've had a lot of encouragement along the way from my parents and others and had a chance to ride work with some good jockeys,'' he said.
''I first met the Bruntons last October and they've given me a lot of advice.
''I haven't had much to do with Buzzing Away, but I'm looking forward to my first ride -it will be another part of the learning experience.''
Buzzing Away finished unplaced at her only start in February.
She has had two trials in preparation for her return to racing, including a respectable third to Snippetee Bee and Suwerte at Elwick on Tuesday.
The Brunton stable will have three other runners in the same race, headed by odds-on favourite Streetwise Savoire, who looks the winner on exposed form.
Streetwise Savoire will be Brendon McCoull's first ride after being sidelined for just over two months with a fractured collarbone.
